As part of a senior year independent study, I developed a mixed reality Star-Wars themed simulation that allowed users to experience their current environment enriched with minature flying ships, lightsabers, and lasers as part of a public relations effort to excite incoming high schoolers to take classes in our schools under-appreciated computer science department. This project involved developing in the Unity 3D game engine with the HTC Vive VR headset and the ZED stereoscopic camera. The ZED camera was attached to the front of the VR headset, which allowed the headset to display the real world environment in the VR headset. This setup effectively allowed for me to add in virtual elements into the real world through the headset - creating an unique experience that hundreds of families and future students were able to witness at a school event.
