Digital Trail Making Test

“The Trail Making Test is a neuropsychological test of visual attention and task switching. It consists of two parts in which the subject is instructed to connect a set of 25 dots as quickly as possible while still maintaining accuracy. The test can provide information about visual search speed, scanning, speed of processing, mental flexibility, as well as executive functioning. It is sensitive to detecting cognitive impairment associated with dementia, for example, Alzheimer’s disease.” -Wikipedia

While this test is traditionally performed on paper, this project has set out to develope a digitalized version. While there are many possible development routes, I ended up choosing to use the Unity Game Engine due to its heavily optimized graphics capabilities and built-in cross-platform build support. To date, the digital TMT is still in development, but has successfully gathered data from over 250 individual tests in a matter of an hour of uptime, which is much more than what could be achieved in the traditional paper style test.
